FILLER DISSOLVING

20 minutes

pre-numbing applied

bruising and swelling is common

filler dissolving treatment works to safely and comfortably break down the dermal filler. hyaluronidase is an enzyme which exists naturally in your body. when you get lip fillers normally, low levels of naturally occurring hyaluronidase are the reason they break down over time. By injecting a high concentration of this substance into the lips enables the filler to be broken down more rapidly, and disposed of by the body’s own systems.

below are the most common reasons we see filler being dissolved:

lumps & bumps - lumps and bumps are very common in the first couple days after treatment, they can be caused by bruising and swelling  and normally will subside naturally within two weeks. if lumps still persist after this time they may need to be massaged, lanced (excess filler squeezed out) and in last resort they may need to be dissolved using a tiny amount of hyalase.

migration -patient's anatomy and how it functions will play a large role on where and how filler will settle. as injectors we are educated and have experience knowing which areas that filler shouldn’t be injected that may cause a problem in migration, however each individual's anatomy is so diverse. ultimately filler will move to the path of least resistance to find a comfortable place to sit. some patients tissues have more “pockets” or laxity and therefore less support in keeping a filler in place or if a patient swells greatly post treatment, this can also cause some compression or movement of product.

unhappy with results- If you have had a treatment done and are not happy with the outcome we can reverse the filler using dissolver.

after dissolving filler cannot be placed into the area for two weeks prior this is because the enzyme continues to break filler down for two weeks once injected and also to allow time for your own natural collogens to be restored. In some cases if the filler is seriously migrated more then one session of dissolving may be required.

patch test is required 20 minutes prior to all dissolving treatments this is to ensure you are not allergic to the dissolver. If you show signs of an allergic reaction unfortunately we will not be able to carry out the treatment as this could lead to further and serious complications such as anaphylaxis.

  • Are lip fillers safe?
Risks are minimal, although these will be discussed with you at your appointment. However, it is not uncommon to experience minor side-effects like slight swelling/bruising, as fillers are an injection-based treatment which pierce the facial skin.
  • Do lip fillers hurt?
For this particular cosmetic treatment the pain level is considered minimal a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to numb the area prior to the treatment. Light pain or discomfort may occur, it is usually described as a small scratch when the needle is administered.
  • How long will the filler last?
Fillers are not permanent. How long they last depends on many factors such as the type of filler used and your body's natural metabolism. They usually last anywhere between six and eighteen months.
  • Will i have lumps in my lips?
Lumps are actually a common side effect after lip augmentation. The most common cause of lumps after filler treatment is swelling. These should naturally subside within the first two weeks but are totally correctable if need be. We do recommend following all of our aftercare advice to help speed up your healing process.
  • Can fillers be dissolved or removed?
Whilst we hope that you are 100% satisfied with your treatment, there may be rare occasions when your expectations had not been met. It is for this reason that we start each treatment with a thorough consultation to ensure that we understand what your goals and expectations are. If you are not happy with the result, or would like to have a treatment dissolved, it is possible to do so with hyaluronidase.
